Sandblasting is a highly effective form of media blasting used to strip a surface of foreign material. You might be more familiar with using sandpaper to accomplish similar goals. The theory behind sandblasting is much the same, but it’s effective for larger objects as well as those that require a little extra help. When you have something you need to smooth, strip, or shape and you need an even finish, this type of media blasting might be the best solution. It’s especially effective for projects with lots of nooks, crannies, or corners that could make more traditional sanding methods impractical.

How does sandblasting work?

To help ensure even application, compressed air is used to literally “blast” fine grains of sand at the object to be sandblasted. This process is much easier on the body than attempting to use a physical sander or grinder and also offers the additional benefit of being easy to control. The team at Nu Finish Media Blasting can adjust the strength of the blast to help meet your exact sanding needs. Additionally, note that it’s possible to use additional media for this form of blasting, including:

  • Steel Grit
  • Glass Beads
  • Steel Shot
  • Powdered Abrasives
